The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. It's the last Feature Friday of 2021 so this week, we want to take a look back at the year and everything we've accomplished!

Like many, our department felt the lingering effects of COVID-19 over the last year. But even with these obstacles to overcome, our staff worked hard to make 2021 another successful year! We were able to resume our regular Movie Night practices, purchased a new service truck, move into our new office /shop and, alongside our regular maintenance, accomplish several other large scale projects!

Here are some of the projects we are most proud of:
  • Celebrated 20 years as a Tree City USA
  • Lions Park street light upgrade
  • Completed construction of Schultz Farm Road
  • Culvert replacement and trail repair on the Hwy 76 Trail
  • Construction of new trail segment along Kimberly Ct.
  • Reconstruction of the Jennerjohn Park parking lot
  • Dedicated and renaming of Pebble Ridge Park to James Wunderlich Park
  • Installation of Pickleball, Basketball, Tennis and Volleyball courts at Lions Park
  • Relandscaped the Schuler Woods sign at Lions Park
  • Additional snow removal on trails
  • Traffic flow and parking updates at Lions Park
We are excited to see where the New Year brings us and to show you what we have planned for 2022, so stay tuned!

The 3rd Annual Snowman Building Contest is here!

Important Winter Reminders

  • Most traffic crashes in winter are caused by drivers going too fast for conditions. Please slow down, buckle up, and allow plenty of following distance. Do not use cruise control on wet or slippery surfaces and be sure to pay close attention to what’s happening ahead of you.
  • Snow plows may pass your home several times during a heavy snow fall in order to keep the roads clear and safe. Village staff/equipment WILL NOT clean or remove snow that is deposited into driveways by plows. This is the responsibility of the property owner.
  • Stay at least 200 feet behind a working snowplow. Make sure that you can see the plow’s mirrors to ensure the driver can see you and DO NOT pass plow trucks unless instructed by the driver.
  • Keep a 3-foot clearance around your hydrant. Snowfall, combined with frozen plowed snow bury fire hydrants under large amounts of compacted snow, thus making them difficult to find and use in an emergency. Snow should be removed about three feet (3') away from the hydrant in all directions and a pathway cleared between the hydrant and the nearest roadway. See here.
  • DO NOT place garbage carts in the roadway. Carts should be placed at the end of your dive way to avoid contact with snow plows and the snow being thrown by the plows. Garbage and recycling will still be collected during most snow events.
  • DO NOT park in the road. Village Ordinance prohibits parking in the road between the hours of 12am and 6am but we encourage drivers to avoid parking in the road during any snow event to allow our plows and plow drivers to better do their jobs.
  • It is against Village Ordinance to deposit snow in the public right-of-ways. Public right-of-ways include roads, ditches, paths and walkways. This means that all snow cleared from your driveway must be deposited within your own property. Pushing snow across or into Village roads is prohibited within this ordinance.
  • The Village WILL NOT replace mailboxes or posts that are installed incorrectly or sustain damaged by flying snow or other vehicles hitting them. Properly installed mailboxes and posts will only be repaired/replaced if they are hit and damaged by a Village snowplow. Review the Mailbox Replacement Policy and Damage Claim here.
  • If a snow emergency is declared, it will be noted on the homepage of the Village's website and posted on all social media sites.

The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week, we want to tell you about an opportunity to memorialize a loved one within Greenville.

The Village of Greenville is proud to offer you an opportunity to honor those you love! Whether it’s those who have served or are currently serving our country or community, yourself, or a loved one that you would like to memorialize, you can purchase a brick to “set it in stone.” Some choose to memorialize a friend or grandparent while others want to memorialize an accomplishment like their business or special date. Memorial Bricks for service members are often inscribed with an honorees name along with their dates of service, branch, rank, insignia and/or war served in. A mini keepsake brick that replicates the original brick is also available.

Brick placement is available in two locations: The Heritage Fountain brick plaza at Jennerjohn Park and the Memorial Square pathway next to the new Municipal Service Complex. While the Heritage Fountain placement is open to anyone, out Memorial Square is only available to Veterans and Fire/EMS personnel. The bricks in the Memorial Square walkway are mapped here: https://bit.ly/3fg3gpe

Looking to purchase a Memorial Brick? Our order form can be found here: https://bit.ly/2VcpkXK

The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week, our parks crew sure did get into the holiday spirit with some Christmas lights!

Did you notice the holiday lights in the roundabout at the intersection of County Road CB and State Highway 15?

The Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for the maintenance of all three roundabouts on CTH CB between STH 15 and STH CA. The roundabout at the intersection of CTH CB and STH 15 is the only roundabout that currently gets holiday lights and this year marks the fifth year our crews have decorated it for the holiday season. The new roundabout located at CTH CB and Atlantis Drive is equipped with electric services but isn’t quite ready for holiday lights yet. It will take a few years for the trees and shrubs to grow large enough for us to add any lights. The roundabout located at the intersection W Greenville Dive and CTH CB doesn’t have electrical services. It was adopted by Community First Credit Union and is maintained primarily by them.
