The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week, we want to tell you about our skate park.

The skate park is located at the northwest end of Community Park and is open from 7am until dusk. It was designed in 2013 by local skaters and later built in 2014. When the skate park was built, it was built with the intention that Community Park would be a temporary home and it would eventually move to the Lions Park. Although there is no date currently set for this move, it is still the future plan.

Equipment at the skate park includes a quarter pipe, bank ramp, kinked grind rail, two grind boxes and central ramp with additional grind rail. This facility is not supervised but, we do encourage all skaters to use protective wear while skating at the park.

The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week, we want to tell you about the playground at Jennerjohn Park.

The playground at Jennerjohn Park is the biggest, and probably most popular, park playground here in Greenville. There are three different playground areas to choose from. A sand area is located furthest north and is about 1,800 square feet in size. It includes a digger and a metal fire truck for “driving” and climbing.

The sand area and fire truck are originals to the playground but, in 2005 a community build replaced one single playground with the two that are currently there. One of the playground areas is designed for children ages 2-5 and is approximately 3000 square feet in size. It includes equipment to slide, climb, ride, and swing. The other is designed for ages 5-12 and offers much of the same play opportunities but on a higher skill level. That area is approximately 5000 square feet in size.

Other activities to enjoy while playing at the park include a ball diamond, open play space, tennis courts, the Heritage Fountain and part of the trail system. A covered pavilion offers picnic tables, shade and restrooms. You’ll even find activities here in the winter months when we have our sledding hill, ice rink and ski trial!

What’s your favorite way to play at Jennerjohn Park?

Greenville Sub Area Plan Open House Coming to a Virtual Site Near You!

Join Greenville for a Virtual Open House June 29-July 3, 2020 to engage in review and provide comments on ideas and concepts for Sub Area Plans related to the Heritage District, Urban Core and Gateways. Visit https://hkgi.mysocialpinpoint.com/greenville to learn more about the project.

Why is the Town developing Sub Area Plans? It is recommended by the 2040 Comprehensive Plan but more importantly it allows us to take a deeper dive into key areas of the community we expect to see change. These areas are important to identity, strength, and vitality of the community.

Community input is crucial to the process. The planning process is built off of prior studies, a series of stakeholder listening sessions and an interactive website to seek input into the issues and opportunities present in each area. The consulting team has taken the information and generated a series of ideas and concepts for a starting point.

In addition to the virtual format from the comfort of your own home or office, we will also be offering in person opportunities at the Town Hall. The public is invited to visit the Town Hall on Tuesday June 30, 2020 between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in order to review the virtual information with staff. Social distancing measures will be in place.

Finally, there will be two live virtual sessions held by our consultant on Tuesday June 30, 2020 between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. and between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Our consultant will walk through the concepts and ideas and allow the public to interact, ask questions and hold conversations. Staff will have the Town Hall open with social distancing in place for these live virtual session as well. The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week, we have some exciting news to announce!

We are excited to be bringing you our 13th annual Community Movie Night at the Lions Park! This event brings families and children of all ages together for a fun, appropriate, and safe evening of entertainment. During this free event, a movie is shown in the amphitheater and concessions provided by the Greenville Lioness Club. Traditionally, the movie is shown to movie goers sitting right in the amphitheater grass, but this year, things will look a little different! Our staff has worked diligently over the last few weeks to find a way to hold our annual event while still following CDC guidelines and keeping our audience safe.

This year’s Community Movie Night will be done as a drive-in movie! Vehicles will park in the large lot below the amphitheater and view the screen on the opposite side of our regular showings. This means that space may be limited, and will be done on a first come, first serve basis. Restrooms will still be available in The Barn, but the audience will otherwise be asked to stay in their vehicle while watching the movie. Sound will be broadcast to your vehicle’s radios and the Greenville Lioness will be delivering water and popcorn right to your window!

We simply could not bring this event to the community without the help of our local sponsors. While we are always thankful for our sponsors, we want to give them an extra thank you for supporting us and the community though these uncertain times. Thank you to Christus Lutheran Church, Wolf River Community Bank, The Bulk Food Shoppe, Kyle Lang Agency LLC, Mitch Ryan – Edward Jones, and Jeff’s Water Conditioning!

Annual Hydrant Flushing Update

The Sanitary District  is still working to complete their annual flushing and exercising. This began the week of May 11, 2020 and will continue throughout these summer months.

How does this effect me?
While staff is working on the hydrants in your area, you may notice that your water appears cloudy. This is normal and your water is sill safe to use and drink. To help clear up the color, you can run the cold water tap located closest to your water meter until the water runs clear.

Why is this necessary?
The Public Service Commission and Wisconsin DNR requires the Town to flush the water distribution system, including the fire hydrants, on a regular basis. Flushing hydrants is essential to keeping your water safe and maintaining our distribution system. It also helps to ensure that the hydrant is in good working order for the Fire Department's use!

If you have questions, please contact our Public Works Office at (920)757-7276.

The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week, we want to tell you about Pebble Ridge Park.

Pebble Ridge Park may seem like just another small neighborhood park but with 13 acres, it has a lot to offer! The playground was designed for kids of all ages and has equipment to climb, slide, hang and swing. Next to the playground there is a picnic area and plenty of large open play space. A beautiful prairie overlooks the retention pond and on street parking allows for easy access to all areas of the park.

Walking trails throughout the park run through a wooded area, part of the prairie and along the retention pond. In August of 2019, approximately 1,600 feet of 8 foot wide trail was paved to provide a cleaner, safer surface for users. Prior to paving, the trail was all gravel and frequently washed out, creating low spots. The paved segment branches off to align with both entrances of the woods on either side of the prairie. The wooded section of the trail remains gravel. The whole trail is approximately one half mile.

What’s your favorite part of Pebble Ridge Park?

Pandemic Relief for Small Businesses in Wisconsin

Small businesses in Wisconsin often operate on razor-thin profit margins and hold very little cash in reserve, which makes weathering the effects of a global pandemic particularly challenging. Complicating matters for these small businesses seeking federal or other financial assistance is that they often lack the financial relationships required or are otherwise ineligible, to qualify for these programs. WEDC’s We’re All In Small Business Grant is designed to help these small businesses get back on their feet while also encouraging the adoption of best practices to keep employees, customers, and communities safe.

The program will provide $2,500 grants to 30,000 small businesses and is designed to help them get back on their feet amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This also encourages small businesses to adopt best practices to keep employees, customers, and communities safe. Eligibility criteria for the grant program can be found on WEDC's website.
