The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week, we want to give you an update on the new construction at Lions Park!

The Greenville Lions Club started the development of the final portion of Lions Park in the beginning of 2018. The first phase of construction was completed in June of 2018 and included the mass grading of the site, the installation of utilities and the installation of a gravel base for the parking lot and sport courts.

In August of 2019 the Lions Club began phase two by pouring concrete for the courts, stairways and ramps. Topsoil was placed and grass seed planted that following fall. Fencing around the courts was added during the summer of 2020.

Major progress was made this summer with the installation of railing to the stairways and ramps, painting of lines and installation of nets. Changes to the overall design were also approved and implemented. The original tennis courts have been redesigned to accommodate eight dedicated pickleball courts, a dedicated tennis court now replaces one of basketball courts and the remaining basketball court includes hoops for both full court and two half courts. All of the courts are now fully equipped and operational.

Final construction to this area of the park will include a playground, paved parking, skate park and a pavilion.

This exciting project is being funded and managed by the Greenville Lions Club and is a great addition to the park!
