The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week we want to tell you about our archery range!

The archery range at Lions Park was built in 2014 by the Greenville Civic Club. The original design included a covered platform 12 feet off the ground along with ground level shooting on each side. During the fall of 2019, the Civic Club decided to make further improvements to the range and added two structures that cover the ground level shooting line on either side of the tower. These structures not only improve the safety of the range by preventing arrows from being shot upwards but also provide shade and protect archers from the elements.

Current amenities at the archery range include bow hangers, case rack, broken arrow bins, arrow quivers at the line, garbage cans and picnic tables. Target distances range from 10 to 50 yards. The range is open year round from 7:00am until dusk. It is open to all ages but children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult. Jennerjohn Parking Lot Closure

JENNERJOHN PARK PARKING LOT TO CLOSE AUGUST 30

Beginning August 30, the Jennerjohn Park access road and parking lot off of Rickey Lane will be closed while the road and parking lot is reconstructed. The trail access from Rickey Lane, as well as the rest of the park, will remain open during construction. Parking will still be available in the parking lot off of Meadowview Drive and along street on Rickey Lane.

The newly reconstructed parking lot will be slightly larger to accommodate more parking stalls and will include curb, gutter and storm sewer. By capturing the storm water and diverting it to the pond, we hope to improve some of the drainage issues within the park.

This project is expected to be complete in mid-October. If using the park during this time, please stay out of the construction site and give the crew plenty of room to work.

The projects detailed below are large scale projects happening in addition to our regular, day to day, operations. Their completion may be managed by village staff or the services may be contracted with a third party. Streets

• Greenwood Road Reconstruction
• The Village of Greenville was notified by Sommers Construction that due to weather they will not be on Greenwood Rd till Tuesday Aug. 31. Sommers Construction plans to start pouring curb and gutter on the west side of the road with the east side to immediately follow. Please keep vigilant, so you can have your vehicles and any other things out of your driveway you would like to use due the concrete cannot be driven on for 7 days after it is poured.
• Week of 8/23/21: Work on installing water main between Rickey Ln and Parkview, and continue to dig the storm water pond.
• Week of 8/30/21: Finish water main installation, start installation of water and sanitary sewer laterals to homes, installation of storm sewer, all between Rickey and just north of Parkview. Continue to dig the storm water pond. Curb and gutter is set to be poured on Tuesday of this week.

Water & Sewer

• STH 76 Force Main & Lift Station Improvements
• Week of 8/23/21: Lift Station 2 valve vault and wet well piping. The foundation for the new chemical feed and control building at Lift Station 2 has been placed. Begin valve vault installation at Lift Station 1.
• Week of 8/30/21: Valve vault and wet well work continues. Manhole installation and bypass preparation near Lift Station 2. Work continues at Lift Station 1.

Parks, Recreation & Forestry

• Schultz Farm Road
• The construction of Schultz Farm Road, which provides access to the Sports Complex and Well #5, is scheduled for completion by the end of August. Utilities have been relocated and Vinton Construction will complete the project with construction of the right turn lane and paving the road surface north of Hwy 96.
• Jennerjohn Park Parking Lot Reconstruction
• The parking lot accessed from Rickey Lane will be reconstructed to be more efficient for parking and stormwater facilities will be installed to direct water to the pond. Construction is planned to begin August 30 with completion scheduled for mid-October. This lot will be CLOSED during construction. The park will remain open with parking available in the Meadowview Drive lot. Trail access from Rickey Lane will remain open.
• Lions Park Development
• The Lions Club has resumed work on the southeast corner of the park with completion of the sport courts. The Lions Club have decided to change the planned tennis court area to a dedicated pickle ball facility. The facility will include 8 pickle ball courts. Additional facilities will include sand volleyball, tennis and basketball. Please keep clear of this area while work continues.
• Community Park Redevelopment
• The Village is working with Cedar Corporation to continue planning and design work for the potential redevelopment of Community Park. This is a partnership project between the Village, Greenville Youth Sports and Greenville Civic Club.
• Kimberly Court Trail Extension
• The Greenville Public Works Crew is currently building a trail extension along Kimberly Court to connect the trail from the end of the cul de sac to the Greenville Middle School. This will provide safer access to the school from the Hwy 76 trail. Previously trail users had to travel on the road surface of Kimberly Court to reach the school area and reconnect with the trail.
• Week of 8/23/2021: Pavement removal and rough grading of base aggregate and topsoil.
• Week of 8/30/2021: Final grading of base aggregate and potentially pave depending on weather.

2022 Rental Season

As opening day for our 2022 rental season quickly approaches, renters should make themselves aware of recent changes our forms, fees, and location.

Important reservation reminders:

• Rentals are done on a first come, first serve, basis with in-person reservations taking priority.
• Rental rates will increase as of January 1, 2022 and will be applied to all reservation for the 2022 season.
• Payment is due in full at the time of booking ( both rental fee and deposit) via cash or check only. We do not accept credit/debit cards.
• Our Facility Reservation Agreement has been recently updated. Renters should have this from filled out and ready to go prior to arriving the morning of.
• Renters are encouraged to have a secondary, or back up date, in mind

Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. With a new rental season opening up in a couple of weeks, this week we want to tell you about The Barn at Lions Park!

From weddings and fundraisers to concerts and crafts, The Walter J. Schroeder Barn sees an event almost every weekend during our rental season. It features tall ceilings, an open concept, and an expansive patio that can all fit up to 500 guests. It is not only our largest rental facility but also our only indoor facility.

While the facility is not temperature controlled, the 8 overhead doors help to provide a breezy indoor/outdoor space. The paved patio wraps around the sides of the building and overlooks a beautiful stormwater prairie. Indoor amenities include an ATM machine, garbage and recycling containers, large private bathrooms and the optional use of 40 wooden picnic tables. Renters also have the option of adding on the kitchen facilities which include a stove, refrigerator, freezer, large prep area, deep wash sinks, and two large serving windows.

The Barn can be rented by the day, Tuesday – Thursday or for an entire weekend, Friday – Sunday. The 2022 rental season opens to Greenville residents at 7am on Wednesday, September 1 and are done on a first come, first serve basis. Renters should make themselves aware of the recent changes to rental forms and fees, as well as our office’s new location.
