The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week, we want to tell you about one of our Landscape Beautification Winners!

We would like to congratulate Sue Datta on receiving the Landscape Beautification Award! Sue was nominated by her husband, Paul, who says “Over 30 years, Sue has taken a farm field and turned it into a forest wonderland. From peach, apricot and mulberry to Ohio buckeye and Kentucky coffee tree, she has planted hundreds of varieties of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees. Also including a woodland garden with native woodland plants.”

Sue gave members from our Forestry Department as well as the Urban Forestry Board a tour of her property when the award was presented. We were not only impressed with her beautiful yard but also her knowledge about each of the trees and plants in her yard and the intentional way she planted them. Sue remembers where each of her trees are planted as well as when she planted them. Many of her trees were started from seeds that she collected from other trees.

Through the Landscape Beautification Award, our department, along with the Urban Forestry Board, recognizes the efforts of residents, businesses and organizations within the Village of Greenville that beautify the community through outstanding landscape improvements and maintenance.
