Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week, we want to tell you about a project we recently completed. Have you wondered about
the work near the Highway 76 trail tunnel?
This work was to replace
the existing 24” HDPE plastic culverts. These culverts were failing and heaving
through the pavement causing a safety issue. This is a common issue with
plastic culverts due to frost cycles. Two 24” concrete culverts were installed
to help prevent future failures and the asphalt pavement was replaced to
provide a smooth surface.
The tunnel under HWY 76
connects the trail system that runs along Municipal Drive from the Greenville
Lions Park to Jennerjohn Park. This section of trail is often used to access
the YMCA and Greenville Middle school.
