The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week we want to tell you about our archery range!

The archery range at Lions Park was built in 2014 by the Greenville Civic Club. The original design included a covered platform 12 feet off the ground along with ground level shooting on each side. The Civic Club began making further improvements to the range in the fall of 2019 and finished them up just this week! The site now includes two structures that cover the ground level shooting line on either side of the tower. These structures not only improve the safety of the range by preventing arrows from being shot upwards but they also provide shade and protect archers from the elements. We are very excited about this project and want to extend a huge thank you to the Greenville Civic Club for making this project happen!

Other amenities at the archery range include bow hangers, broken arrow bins, arrow quivers at the line, a bow case shelf, garbage cans and picnic tables. The range is open year round from 7:00am until dusk. Target distances range from 10 to 50 yards. It is open to all ages but children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult. A full list of rules can be found posted at the entrance gate.
