Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week we want to tell you about the last of our rentable shelters! Have you decided which one is your favorite yet?

The Jennerjohn Park Pavilion is surrounded by open green space and shaded by plenty of trees. While set back from the parking lot and playground, renters still have a clear line of sight to both. This pavilion is great for any kind of party!

This open pavilion air shelter has a capacity of 60 and includes 10 picnic tables, garbage and recycling receptacles, roll down awning sides, corn hole game boards, and a BBQ grill. The kitchen facilities include stand up refrigerator with freezer top, sink, ample counter space and electrical outlets, and a serving window.

Renters will also find casual play baseball field, tennis courts, Heritage Fountain and recreational trail access within the park. The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about and today, its also #ArborDay. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the tree planter’s holiday, and we’re excited to celebrate with you!

But you might wonder, what is #ArborDay? The answer is quite simple, #ArborDay is one day of the year dedicated to celebrating trees and the important role that they play in our environment. It was started in Nebraska in 1872 and is still celebrated today throughout the United States and even around the world. #ArborDay is an important way to raise awareness of the many issues that surround trees.

To celebrate, we planted a Redbud Tree at Jennerjohn Park with Girl Scout Troop #2394 on Tuesday and today, our Village Forester will be giving a virtual presentation to the Greenville Middle School 5th graders. The students will be bringing home Red Oak seedlings to plant after the presentation.

Want to do your part in honoring the holiday? All you need to do is use the hashtag #ArborDay on social media! Every hashtag counts towards The Arbor Day Foundation’s goal of planning 150,000 trees this year. These trees will sequester carbon, mitigate heat, help to restore our nation’s forests, and provide jobs and livelihoods around the world.

Community Movie Night is a free event held at Lions Park several times throughout the summer. During this event, a movie is shown in the amphitheater and concessions are sold by the Greenville Lioness Club out of the pavilion. Attendance averages more than 200 people per movie!

The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week, we want to tell you about another one of our rental pavilions!

Located within the amphitheater, the Lions Park East Pavilion has a capacity of 100 and is one of three pavilions available for rent at this park. Due to its close proximity to, and shared parking with The Barn, it is not typically available for rent on Saturdays. It is however, rented by the day and still  has a lot to offer every other day of the week! This covered shelter has a minimum of 12 picnic tables, garbage and recycling receptacles, and an indoor kitchen. The large kitchenette includes separate stand up freezer and refrigerator, sink, stove, ample counter space and electrical outlets, and a large serving window.

Renters will also find an abundance of open play space, archery range, playground, recreational trail access, Schueler Woods nature trails, and public restrooms within the park.
