Greenville Project Updates

The projects detailed below are large scale projects happening in addition to our regular, day to day, operations. Their completion may be managed by village staff or the services may be contracted with a third party. Please remember that all of the information, and time lines, are weather dependent and subject to change at any time.

Streets

• Greenwood Road Reconstruction
• Week of 7/12/21: Make final water main connection at the intersection of Rickey Ln, installation of the outfall storm sewer system along Evening Star Dr, finish raising of home, and possibly begin excavation of the storm water pond.
• Week of 7/19/21: Possible excavation of pond, and possibly start replacing utilities north of Rickey Ln on Greenwood Rd.

Water & Sewer

• STH 76 Force Main & Lift Station Improvements
• Week of  7/12/21: The force main is completed to both lift stations and lift station demolition has begun. Crews are working to finish the landscaping along the STH 76, and we appreciate your patience. There will still be some minor work near and along the highway to complete the restoration.
• Week of 7/19/21: Lift Station 2 demolition, bypass and installation will continue for the next few weeks.
• Annual Hydrant Flushing
• This process began the week of June 7 and is scheduled to continue throughout the rest of the summer.

Parks, Recreation & Forestry

• Schultz Farm Road
• The construction of Schultz Farm Road, which provides access to the Sports Complex and Well #5, is scheduled for completion this summer. Utilities have been relocated and Vinton Construction will complete the project with construction of the right turn lane and paving the road surface north of Hwy 96.
• Jennerjohn Park Parking Lot Reconstruction
• Staff is currently working with Cedar Corporation on the design and bidding for the reconstruction of the main Jennerjohn Park parking lot. The lot will be designed to be more efficient for parking and stormwater facilities will be installed to direct water to the pond. Construction is planned for September/October.
• Lions Park Development
• The Lions Club will be resuming work on the southeast corner of the park this summer with completion of the sport courts. The Lions Club have decided to change the planned tennis court area to a dedicated pickle ball facility. The facility will include 8 pickle ball courts. Additional facilities will include sand volleyball and basketball.
• Community Park Redevelopment
• The Village is working with Cedar Corporation this summer to continue planning and design work for the potential redevelopment of Community Park. This is a partnership project between the Village, Greenville Youth Sports and Greenville Civic Club.

The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week, we want to tell you about one of our neighborhood parks.

Glen Valley Park is a neighborhood park located on the far west end of the Glen Valley subdivision with access off of Englewood Drive. It’s the Town of Greenville’s newest park property and is approximately 2.5 acres.

In October of 2017 the playground was installed with help from neighbors and community volunteers. The playground was designed for kids of all ages and has equipment to climb, slide, hang and swing. The playground area is surrounded by woodchips while the rest of the park is seeded with turf grass and planted with trees. With future development, we plan to add additional acreage to the park as well as other park amenities.

The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. As we begin a new month, we want to tell you why the month of July is so important to us.. its Parks and Recreation Month!

Since 1985, people in the United States have celebrated Park and Recreation Month in July to promote building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation, and to recognize the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals — along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers — that maintain our country’s local, state and community parks.

The services that park and recreation professionals provide are vital for our communities — from protecting open space and natural resources to helping fight obesity and providing activities and resources for all people. This has been especially true throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Park and Recreation Month encourages everyone to reflect on the exponential value park and recreation professionals bring to communities.
