HWY 76 Closure

HWY 76 will be closed at the railroad tracks north of HWY 15 the week of June 7, 2021

As part of the HWY 76 Force Main Reconstruction Project, we are required to bore under the railroad tracks on HWY 76. During this time there is a detour that is set up from STH 76 to CTH JJ to CTH A to CTH OO / STH 15 to STH 76. The attached map shows the LOCAL alternative routes in blue.

This closure is scheduled to begin June 7 and reopened on June 11. Please remember, this is weather dependent and subject to change.

Holiday Refuse Collection

Due to the holiday, all garbage and recycling collection will pushed back one day during the week of Memorial Day. 

 
This means that garbage collection during the week of May 31, 2021 is as follows:
- Wednesday collection will occur on Thursday
- Thursday collection will occur on Friday
- Friday collection will occur on Saturday

Lions Park Traffic Flow and Parking Change

In an effort to improve safety and better accommodate the demand for parking at Lions Park, the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department will be making a change to the traffic pattern through the park. This includes changing the flow of traffic in some parts of the park as well as marking additional parking stalls. The described changes are also shown in the in the below visual aid.

The park’s north entrance will be designated as an entrance only with one way traffic running through the park to the road leading down to the archery range. The south entrance will remain as both an entrance and an exit with two way traffic until the archery range road. The roads leading down to the barn and archery range will both also remain two way traffic.

Angled parking stalls will be painted along the inside loop of the main roadway. This will add an additional 76 designated parking stalls to the park.

This work is set to be completed on Thursday, May 27 with the change in traffic pattern to take effect immediately upon completion. We ask for your cooperation and patience with this change.

The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department's Feature Friday

Each Friday, the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department features something new for residents and visitors to learn more about. This week, we want to share Appletree Square with you!

Appletree Square is a 2 acre park located on Appletree Court. It was cleverly named after the road on which it is located, but later, was also planted with a Crabapple Arboretum. There are 9 varieties of crabapple trees within this property and, if you follow the recreational trail through the tunnel to Jennerjohn Park, you will find several more! Each tree has a name plate at its base showing what type of crabapple it is.

Although there isn’t a playground at this park, you’ll still find plenty to enjoy! There is an abundance of green space, recreational trail access, park bench, an informational board with department information and maps, and a Free Little Library that was built and installed by local Girl Scouts.

Brush Pickup

The Public Works Department begins curbside brush pickup on the second Monday of every month, or as weather and operations allow. Residents requesting pickup must do so no later than 12:00pm on the Friday prior to pickup in order to be placed on that month’s brush pick up list. 

Brush pickup is scheduled to begin at 7:00am on Monday morning but is subject to change based on weather conditions and other department operations. Pickup will continue through the week(s) until the pickup list has been completed. 

If the Public Works Department spends more than 20 minutes at a stop, the property owner will be charged at a rate of $200 per hour, with a minimum charge of $150. The purpose in doing this is to be equitable to all Greenville residents. The crew will not stop after 20 minutes but will continue until all of the branches or brush is chipped.
